Lord Kitchener has forwarded to Steyn and Botha the sworn evidence taken before General Elliot, showing that Lieutenant Mair, of the New South Wales Artillery, and Privates Harvey and Blunt, were shot down on June 6 last after surrendering at Graspa-n, near Reitz, when General Elliot engaged De Wet. London, August 28. Affidavits having been made in regard to the treacherous shooting of Australian soldiers by the Boers, Lord Kitchener has issued a proclamation announcing that drastic measures will be taken to deal with the offenders.

Lieutenant D. G. Turleston, of the New Zealand Seventh Contingent, died of pneumonia at Losberg. The name of this officer does not appear in the list of the Contingent. AN AUCKLANDER KILLED. It has now transpired that the officer of the Seventh Contingent who was stated in yesterday's Heijald to have been killed at Voreeniging was Lieutenant G. Leece, late of Parnell. Mrs. M. Leece yesterday received information from the Premier of the death of her son. Mr. George Leece was a native of England, a.nd was born at Hothersall Manor, Lancashire. Ho was 35 years of age. He joined the Fifth Contingent as corpora.!, and rose through the successive posts until presented with his commission in the Seventh. Mr. Leece was well known in Auckland, and ■ great sympathy is expressed for the members of his family ill their bereavement. 1
