Tho monthly inspection of the Onehunga Rifles took place on Tuesday last, Captain Molntosh in command. The corps was inspected by Captain-Adjutant Reid. Ser-geant-Major Hoare was also present, and hifltructod tho men in the use of the new LeeEnfield rifles. After parade a special meeting was held for the purpose of electing a subaltern. Mr. Ales. Scott Mason, a gentle- • .nan recently irom Scotland, was unanimously clected to the position. The Onohunga Musical Society will perforin F. H. Cowen's "Rose Maiden," nt their third concert of the season, which takes place to-night. Tho soloists are Madam , Chambers, Miss Mary Laing, Mr. William Aspinall, and Mr. William Asley. The Rev.. Dr. Whitelaw, of Scotland, gives « pleasant talk on "The Old Folks at Home" in St. Stephen's Church, Ponsonby, on l'nday night. „A _ special service will bo held at Holy : Trinity Church, Otahuhu, this evening. Archdeacon Oaldor wilt preach, find also give an address at tho social in the schoolroom. 'All adult church members are invited. • , The 15th Pleasant Thursday evening at Beresford-street Congregational Churech will take place to-night, when the address will ft be giv<jn by the Rev. W.
