CRUELTY TO ANIMALS.
TO THE EDITOR.. Sir,—l mny bo over-considerate for dumb animals, but it certainly made my blood boil to witness the action of a livery stable-keeper on Friday morning. This gentleman, accompanied by a youth, was driving up Khyber Pass, presumably for town, with a horse attached to the rear of his trap, and two others securely roped to the tail of the former. Now, while this may be all very well so long as three jog-along evenly— of the horrible torture to the poor brute in front if the two followers took fright or suddenly swerved off ■in another direction. I think this is a. practice which should be put down by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, as should also the similar one of tying the tails of jibbing horses to the 'buses, through which practice one at least has had its tail skinned.—l am, etc., ' Humanity. , Auckland, August 10, 1901.'
