DAIRYING EXHIBITION.

The dairying exhibition, promoted by the National Dairy Association, opened in the Theatre Royal to-day. , The exhibition is attracting considerable attention locally, besides having drawn visitors from all parts of the colony. It contains displays of some of the finest and most up-to-date dairying appliances and machinery, which are shown to the best advantage by exhibitors. Arrangement has been made for the exhibition to remain open until July 26, which will give the visitors the fullest opportunity of inspecting the exhibits. The Dairy Commissioner and the Government experts have already arrived, while members of the Ministry and of Parliament are expected to be here this week. Great importance is attached to the exhibition and the conference, both of which should prove a great success. Sixteen entries were received in butter and nine in cheese. The competition in butter resulted in a win for the. Moa Farmers' Dairy Factory (Inglewood), with a total of 94 points. llangiwahia-Ruahine Dairy Company was second with 92£ points, and the Maketawa Company (Inglewood) third, with 91£ points. In cheese, W. K. Henderson (Akaroa)' was first, with 95 points; A. Skerman (Hunterville) second, with 92i points ; Featherston Dairy Company third, with 91£ points. The annual meeting of the Factory Butter and Cheesemakers Association was held to-day, when the following officers were elected: President, J. Young (re-elected) ; vice-presidents, M. West (Ngaire), G. Valentine: (Oaonui. Taranaki), W. Gill (Oamaru) ;' secretary and treasurer, W. Wright (Normanby) ; ; auditor, —. James (Stratford). 'The report and balance-sheet, showing a credit balance of £10 odd, was adopted. The meeting decided to form subdistricts. The Taranaki province was divided into three district centreslnglewood, Hawera, and Opunake. Wairarapa and Hawke's Bay, tor the present season, included Manawatu,' with Palmerston North as centre. The Nelson and Marlborough .districts would be include/1 in the Wellington or Canterbury districts, as desired. It was decided that the Agriculturad Department be asked to I examine employees of creameries and factories using the Babcock test,' and to ! issue certificates of competency. Resolutions were carried in support of the establishment of dairy schools in the North Island, urging the desirability of issuing excursion tickets to factories' operatives during the winter months, and granting excursion tickets to managers and assistants over both islands .proceeding to dairy shows. A hearty welcome was tendered to Mr. Singleton, the dairy expert, and the proceedings terminated.
