BEHAVIOUR IN THE PIT.
■■■■■ TO THE EDITOR. - Sir,ln Saturday's issue "of the- Herald there appeared a letter signed;" A. Thomson," condemning in unmeasured terms the disgraceful (?) conduct of the pit. Having been one of the occupants of tl.e pit, X must enter a very strong protest against any such accusation as disorderly behaviour, etc., on the pa.ft of its occupants having occurred. I venture to say that all jtaose who waited at the Opera House from naifpast six on the evenings in rjuestion ;»vqro well repaid for their long wait by tho unrehearsed comedy act played by tho. pit from seven until eight p.m. It was a. happy prelude to the tragedy that _ was to follow. Tho many remarks and witticisms which omanated from the pit were give 1 in all good humour, ' and as far as I count judge, they wore accepted as such; and f there were one or two homo thrusts, 11--that was not the pit's fault. No fault could bo found" with the general behaviour of that popular- resort; the male occupants were most courteous, and showed a c ° n * sideration and refinement of manner, that many in the orchestral stalls and «.rolo would do well to imitate. - A. Thomson is certainly devoid of all sense of humour in satirising the behaviour of the pit m terms such as he has done.—l am, etc., E. Nicol.
