THE ISLAND SCHOONER.
The christening by the Governor of the Government schooner which is intended to develop the trade of the Islands was an interesting ceremony and the occasion of a felicitous little speech by His Excellency. We sincerely trust that all" his hopes and expectations will -be realised and that the fears so widely expressed here that the vessel will beused to divert the legitimate Island : trade of Auckland to Wellington will prove unfounded. For we may rely upon such, influence as His Excellency possesses in the ; matter being used wisely and honourably and upon no countenance being given to the strange proposals of Colonel Gudgeon, published some months ago, and to which it was then our duty to call His Excellency's attention..
