The steamer Lusitania, at one time engaged in the Australian mail service, while voyaging from Liverpool to Montreal, went ashore at Cape Ballard, Newfoundland. There were 500 passengers on board, but all were saved. , The vessel is a hopeless wreck. The rougher element among the passengers became panic-stricken and tried to rash the Doats, using knives. The officers with difficulty regained control. Women and children almost naked were dragged up the cliffs by the inhabitants.
