FIRE AT TAPU.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Friday. A fire occurred at Tapw last night, which resulted in the destruction of a building owned by Mr. M. McMahon, who used it as a storeroom and hay shed, and an adjacent stable, owned by Mr. P.-. M. Hawkes. The matter was reported to the police this morning, and Constable Stevens was sent down to make inquiries. He ascertained that the outbreak 1 occurred in Mr. McMahon's storeroom, and from there spread to Mr. Hawkes' stable, and all efforts to quench the flames proved futile. addition to the building, Mr. McMahpnsiost about £10 worth of hay and a ohalfetittor. Ha had a policy for £80 on the building in the Norwich Union office, but reckons his loss to be £60 over that sum ; whilst Mr. Hawkes, who only saved a little harness and saddlery, had a policy for £60 on his stable in the Commercial Union office, and ho estimates his loss at £400 over that amount. Nothing is known as to the origin of the fire.
