SMALLPOX,
Adelaide, Juno 22. A nurse at the quarantine station has developed smallpox. THE NEW HEBRIDES. (Received June £3, 5.32 p.m.) Ssdnet, June 23. The French Consul informed a Sunday Times' interviewer that the French were the first to take possession of the New Hebrides, and they intended to stick to the islands, and prove that they wero masters. The proximity of the islands to New Caledonia made them important. France would ob jeel to any other Toner taking possession.
POWERS OP THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. (Received Juno 24, 12.27 a.m.) Hon art, June 23. The Premier's reply to Mr. Barton contends that the post office was Lauded over to the Federal authority for general convenience, and net for curtailing the control of local affairs, even though such curtailment were uniform throughout ail the Stales. He further states that the Federal Parliament, cannot directly or indirectly deal with tiny matters outside, those submitted to it.*
