MUSIC IN THE OPEN AIR.

£10,000 WORTH FOR LONDON THIS SUMMER. The London County Council is going to spend iJIOOO more on music for the people this year than it has ever spent on it before. Last year the sum was £9000. This year Londoners will be able to stroll in 57 different parks and open spaces (in addition to the Royal parks), "and listen to £10,000 worth of music.

This number is an increase of two. Theextra places with free music for the people will be Sydenham Wells Park and the new recreation ground which is to be opened to the public at Deptford. The Royal parks opened their musical season this month, and the bands in the County Council open .spaces commenced on May 16. The was a grand rehearsal at Queen's Hall on May 15. and the bands will be in full swing until- the middle of August. There is usually a small list of places in which the band season is continued until the second week in September. This year it is to be extended in these places until the end of September. In the beautiful pleasant',.e at Heme Hill — Brockwell Park—the band:-, in addition to playing on Sundays, will perform svery Wednesday until September 25. Altogether, under the direction of Mr. Armbruster, there will be this season no . ' war than 1107 performances.
