THE ELECTORATES OF CITY OF AUCKLAND AND NEIGHBOURHOOD.

LARGE INCREASES IN ALL THE DISTRICTS.

We are now in a position to publish the final remits as respects the four electorates of Auckland, Eden, Manukau, and Parnell, and comparative returns as compared with tho 1896 census collection. The totals show that the hon. member for Eden, Mr. John Bollard, has the biggest population in his district of any in the colony. Sir George Maurice O'Eorke, member for Manukau, comes in a good second, and Mr. La wry, for Parnell, stands well for third position. The City of Auckland, with an increase of nearly 5000 will have to bo readjusted, and part of its population carried into another electorate. The population of 1104 for the wharves and shipping tit .Auckland and Onehunga are not included in Mio globo totals on eleclora'es. The official returns give 27 for the islands in Hatiraki Cull, whilst in 1896 the total was 63, showing a shrinkage of 55. A glance at the following summaries will show that considerable progress has been mad" in Auckland in these respects during- the last five yeaa-s, not only in the city and borough of Auckland, but in all oilier parts of Eden County.

The final returns relative to manufactories, works ami all other kinds of industries are now being obtained, and as those details are very important and pressing to finally close (he census particulars, all tliosi who hove not returned the forms should lake special pains in properly completing iliem and post the information at once to the local head of the office.

Mr. King, the enumerator, informs us that all the. subordinates in compiling the census did loyal work. Kvery officer took special interest in his particular branch oi die census duties; no hitch or delay look place and no complaints have reached Mr. King.
