LACROSSE.

The lacrosse season will be formally opened on Saturday next, the 1 ■■■'■■> hist., under iho auspices of the New Zealand Lucroase As-

nociation. Six olubs have each entered a team to compete in the tournament to be held on that day. Huge arrangements are being made to provide afternoon tea and refreshments on the opening day. Patrons of the game are reminded that lacrosseurs provide' refreshments on the pavilion grandstand free of charge to ladies. .Last year this item cost the players 'some £20. On one particular Saturday afternoon towards the e!o._- of last season 6-10 cups of lea were serve,) out on the pavilion. The associated dubs may, indeed, be thanked for their liberality. _ At the end of this season the most consistent and best ail-round lacrosseur of the Grafton District Club will be presented with a handsome gold medal, the gift of Mr. Percy Ibomson, who is a president of that club. Mr. Thomson has left, the important matter of judging in the hands of the club's committee, 'the latter will probably ask the Council of the New Zealand lacrosse Association to appoint judges. It is rumoured that the eastern district clubs have challenged the western boys to a tug-of-war, which will oe part of next Saturday's programme. The most promising of this years recruits who have been practising at the Domain is Carlton Hay. lie can already outclass some experienced players at the fine points of the game. J. Ward, of North Shore. is reported to be in great form. Home Otahuhu men have joined the Suburbs District- Club. The Grey Lynn Club hit; put new blood at me bead of affairs, and may now be expected to do some good. The members of the club havo plenty of pluck and energy, and if their new captain can organise his field well the red-sashes will bo dangerou*. The new secretary of the I'amell Club has the necessary energy to pull the district players together. ll'-:- first step in the right direction was to change the club's colours, which will in future !*• maroon.

A large consignment of Flannery's "Expert" crosses have arrived to the order of Mr. Robert Yates. Fknnery's "Experts*' are the best crosses made, so Air. Yatos' consignment should tiud ready sale among players. " • - -s,
