WAITEMATA COUNTY COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the Waitemata. County Council was hold in the Council office yesterday, Mr. J. O'Neill presiding. There were n.ls> present:—Messrs. Sinclair, Hatfield, Bruce, Wilson, Cochran, and $ Flullinns. Deputations: Mr. A. Christian waited on the Council to urge them to reconsider their decision not 10 spend any more money on ins road at Swanson. Resolved, "That the Council contribute £20 towards the formation o! iho road on condition that .'ho applicant spends an equal amount, either in money or labour, under the supervision of the engineer." Revriti: Mr. D. McDonald, who was offeree; £5 some months ;u;o in settlement of cotipensalion claim, attended and offered to take £7 10s. Agreed to. Wailcumeto Lands: Messrs. Russell and Campbell sent their opinion to ihe effect that the largo blocks oi land at VVaikumete set apart I;v th-3 Government, under the control of the' City Council, for the purposes of recreation and the conservation of native fauna and Hon, were not exempt firm local luxation Ordered to be. rated accordingly. Nev Slaughtering Art: Correspondence from tin Secretary of Agriculture was laid upon the table showing that th? Ccuucil was to do all the work under the new Act, and that all the fees were to go to the general Government. Consideration deferred. Tenders: For constructing a bridge 90ft lans at Upper Orev.-a the tender of 11. W. Barlirtt (£6O) wiw accepted, the highest tender being £177. Fur clearing road at Birkenbea 1. the only tender was from J- C. Taylor (£37), and this was declined. County Health Officers: Dr. King was appointed health officer for the ridings of Takapuna, Norlhcote, Birkenhead, VVaikumete, and Waitakerei, and Dr. Morris, of Helensville, for the ridings of Ma!retain and Kaukapekapa. Kivcrhcad Wharf: The engineer reported that it would cost £56 to renew the land approach to Deacon's wharf. Report adopted, tenders to be called for the work. The Riverhead Paper Milling Company wrote asking the Council to consider the p.dvi=abi'!ity of erecting a new wharf altogether, about 100 yards west of Deacon's, as they found the wharf impracticable for goods Ironic. The Council recognised the necessity for a goods wharf, both for the use of the company and settlers, and decided to make a road to any new wharf the .Harbour Board might erect. ■ Hiding Works: The following applications were considered and dealt with:— Anderson. Upper Waiwera. fen two new small bridges: Deferred. Fukeatua Road Board, for repairs to .lack's bridge: £15 voted. F. Redgalo, foi repairs to road at ('i-ura- Mr. Alison deputed to deal with the matter. W. A. freer.' Whangaparaoa, for landing steps, Wado River: Engineer to report. A. Sinlon, Ib'igham's Creek, for repairs to culvert: £'.? granted. Morgan :i Road, Araiimu: Engineer's report on pro-po-ed deviation adopted, the land to be conveyed for a road by the owners to the county before proposed road works are commenced. Ilelcnsville-Kaipara _ Heads Road: Messrs. Fentons wrote offering land for deviation of road: Accepted with thanks, work to be deferred until spring. AucklandTaupaki Road: Messrs. J. Johnston and J.J. Nixon asked for repairs on this road : Re- j quest approved, but tenders deferred. Upper Waiwera wharf and goods shed : Mr. W. Lambert's application for permission to put ' sheer booms against ' the Upper Waiwera goods shed to prevent injury from floating logs was deferred until the applicant had renewed his timber flotage license. Red-lull, Tauv.eki: Mr. J. A. Nelson's explication for rarairs was granted, tenders to be called. Waikumete station roads: Decided, on the report of the engineer, that the road on tl\e western sido of tho Waikumeto station be made by day labour. Garter's Road, Waikumete : Engineer's report as to new grading, etc., adoiitwl, the work to be deferred. Holensvilfo bridge--. Tho Minister for Lands having made a grant of £200 (£ for £) towards the renovation of these structures, it was decided to call for tenders for the work, returnable at next meeting. Grants for Road Works:' It was decided to ask for the following grants for road works for the year ending March 9, 1902: Kaukapakapa, Rewiti, Waimaiiku, £100; Jlelensville to Makarau (metalling), £250; Wainni-Ka.nkapaka.pa Road (formin'g and ditching), £150: Kumeu South to Auckland, £100 ; Woodhill Creamery road to back blocks, £100 Waikumeto West Coast Road, from Thefts' to Main North Road, £400; New Lynn-Huia Road. £100: Greenhithe wharf approach and road connection, £300; Swanson West Coast Road, £100: Henderson Valley Road. £100; Taupaki station road, £100: Waimanku-AVost Coast Road, £500; Woodhill-Parkhurst Road, £200.
Finance: Accounts totalling £5?6 18s 11 tl were passed for payment. The riding accounts were as follows: —Receipts : Wainui, £9 10s; Takapuna, £13 10s sd; Northcote, £70 13s 8d: Birkenhead, £3 13s 9d: Kaukapakapa, £1 13s; Mairetahi, £28 12s 3d; Waitakerei, £357 18s 8d; Waikumete, £3 9s 9d. Expenditure: Wainui, £275 10s 6d; Takapuna, £109 0s 6d; Nortlicote, £74- Is sd; Birkenhead, £199 16s 2d: Kaukapakapa, £138 lis lid; Mairetahi, £25 17s 9d; Waitakerei, £43 0s 8d v Waikumete, £73 15s Id. After passing a hearty vote of sympathy and condolence with the treasurer (Mr. Oliver Mays, on the death of his son in South Africa., the Council adjourned.
