The present issue of the Auckland | Weekly News contains the first series of j prize competition photographs. These j make a fine collection of illustrations, in- ! cluding nearly all phases of New Zealand life and scenery. Landscape, seascape, gold mining, sheep-farming, bush life — every j phase of colonial enterprise is represented through the camera, by those who have had the best opportunities for studying each I enterprise. Such striking pictures of New ; Zealand have rarely been collected in one I publication, and the public in obtaining this number of the Weekly News secures what in practically a high-class art collection of ! interesting New Zealand subjects. Besides the large number of competition pictures there is a series showing Mercer, on the Waikato River, and the dairying in', dustry there. Another series shows some historical places in the Bay of Islands, and among the miscellaneous pictures are snow scenes on the Rotorua-Auckland line, fishing in Auckland waters, the Cambridge chrysanthemum show, and others.
