DEATH AND FUNERAL OF THE REV. G. JONES, OF WAIPU.

Yesterday morning- the mortal remains of the late Rev. Griffith Jones, who has been the Presbyterian minister a* Waipu for the last 14 years, were laid in their final resting place at Purewa Cemetery. He was born in Cardinganshire, Wales, in 1832, and was educated at the Welsh Theological Colleges of Brecon and Bala, at which eight years of his life were spent. He successfully ministared for 21 years at theLangharne Church, m feouth Wales, resigning this charge on account of the health of bis family and seeking a warmer climate, he arrived in Auckland in 1883. His New Zealand charge **■-** Wai P u Church, which he held up till his death, which occurred last Tuesday, the cause of death being gastritis. A short service was conducted on Wednesday at the manse, Waipu, by the Rev. C. E. Davidson, of Maungaturoto, prior to the body being removed to the residence of his son, Mr. H. R. Jones, Parnell. Many sympathising friends and a large number of members of the congregation followed the remains to the wharf and, as the steamer left, a hymn was sung by the choir. Three members of the kirk session, Messrs. Murdoch McLean, Philip McKay, and N. J. Campbell, and Captain John McKonzie, J. M. McKav, and John McGregor came on by the steamer to attend the funeral, which took place at ten a m yesterday. The Rev. Hugh Kelly MA ' minister of Knox Church, Parnell, officiated at the house and at the grave, and was assisted by the Revs. R. Sommerville and G B. Munro. The chief mourners were Messrs' H. „ It. Jones, T. Jones;, and G. Jones, sons. and Messrs. H. C. Brewer and J F Bennett, sons-in-law of the deceased. The late Rev Mr. Jones leaves to mourn their oss a widow, three sons, and seven daughter loss a widow, three sons, and seven daughters, of whom, one son and four daughters are married.
