TO THE EDITOR. Sir, Having shown Messrs. Pond's and Winstone's statements with reference to the size of pipes, etc., to be incorrect, they, being unable to refute my reply, have created another "bogey" to show that Mr. Metcalfe's figures are at fault. They now say that he has only estimated for 10£ miles of mains, whereas there are 25 miles of roads in the district. Messrs. Pond and Winstone know, as well as I do, that the mains provide for every inhabited road in the district, the extra mileage consisting of the Great South Road and other roads in which there are no houses. Such statements as these show what disingenuous arguments are being used to influence unthinking persons,—l am, etc., ' T. Buddie.
