In the course of an address at West Leeds, Mr. H. J. Gladstone, son of the late Right Hon. W. E. Gladstone, declared that no alternative to the Government was actually possible. R'v declaration greatly irritated the Liberals. Mr. Gladstone now explains that he made the statements in order to emphasise the necessity of converting the electorate to the Liberal party's doctrines.
