The present issue of the Auckland Weekly News contains a large number of most interesting illustrations. A great portion of the little-known King Country is depicted by means of an excellent series of photographs, the only ones ever taken of those districts. As a means of showing New Zealanders the class of country now being developed in the Auckland province, and as a means of showing people outside New Zealand what magnificent land there is ready for settlement here, these pictures serve a most valuable purpose, and the letterpress accompanying them is genuinely attractive.
The recent horticultural show provides a number of beautiful subjects, the illustrations of the prize chrysanthemum? and. dahlias being unique. The features of the main events at the Auckland Racing Club's autumn meeting are given at their most exciting period, the horses being shown in their gallant struggle for the front. Two series of pictures which will attract a large number of people are those illustrating the Hawera and Eltham volunteers in camp, at Tawhiti, and the Star athletic sports at New Plymouth. Scenes in connection with the departure of the Seventh New Zealand Contingent, from Wellington, and portraits of several members of other contingents, support the interest still taken in volunteers for South. Africa, and show that the spirit which sent forth the first New Zealanders to fight for the Empire is still strong.
Pictures of the Thames fire, of the Royal car now being built in Auckland, and of a wide variety of generally interesting subjects, together with a large amount of highclass literary and journalistic matter, make this issue of the Weekly News an unusually attractive number. The News is now on sale, and can be obtained from all agents and runners.
