THE BIRDS.
WHY is my spirit moved when I behold, Across the gently fading evening sky. '.-.•, ' Birds that are slowly passing on their way And homewards fly - . '■ Is it because they know some sure retreat Where they will rest nntil the dawn of day, ■ Or do I vainly dream they follow one ' Who sailed away? Or do I fancy, in their flight, they seek Par. far within the opal-tinted west Some vague beyond, and all my soul would rise To join the quest? ' a.E. ■
