IMPERIAL TROOPS.
LETTER OF THANKS TO AUCKLAND'
CITIZENS. At a special meeting of the Auckland City Council held on March 25, the Mayor (Mr. Goldie), read the following letter from Colonel Wyndham, who commanded the Imperial troops during their visit to the colonies : —
H.M. Transport Britannic. PremanUe, W.A. March 5, 1901. Dear Mr. ■Mayor,—On behalf of the Imperial representative Corns, I wish to convey, to you and to your citizens our very grateful thanks for the hospitality with which you entertained us. The tour through New Zealand has made a deep impression on our minds, not only on account of the beauties and wonders of the islands, but through the kindness everywhere extended to all ranks of the corps, a kindness Which we shall never forget, and which -will be told and retold in every garrison and regiment throughout the United Kingdom. With every good wish for the prosperity of yourself and your citizens, I remain, yours faithfully, G. CaiOl/H-WYNDHAM. Lieutenant-Colonel, 'commanding Imperial Representative Corps. ;■
The town clerk was instructed to write to Colonel Wyndham acknowledging the communication, and thanking him on behalf of the citizens of Auckland 'or the kind expressions contained therein.
