The contest for the championship of Auckland is becoming interesting. The scores of A. Littler (Ponsonby) and -... James (Auckland), on the Mount Eden Green, were only divided by a single : point. It was anticipated that a: largo number of bowlers would be present. LADIES' BOWLING TOURNEY. The ladies' bowling tourney of the Albert Park (Victoria) , Olub ] was concluded on the 19th ult., under favourable auspices. There was a'• large attendance to witness ! the j finals for the champion pairs, which was won by Miss and Mrs. Heather; the latter being captain. Mrs. Dow arid; Miss Sugden were runners-up. ~ ;i; The >•' ■■ ladies' t> iid» gentlemen's' pairs trophy, was won by. Mrs. Dillon and AV. A.. Williams; the' runriers-up being Miss Sug- ■ den and E. D. Heather. W. A. Williams is one of the pennant captains for Albert Park, and is a good tmndler. E. D. Heather is also a pennant player for the Albert Park team. During the tourney afternoon, tea was served from the Geisha tearoom of the Albert Park Ladies' Olub. AUCKLAND CLUB. "PROGRESSIVE BOWLS." ' Yesterday, at the Auckland Green, a same of ." progressive bowls" was played. There were 38 players (pairs matches), making . nine rinks occupied, each pair playing eight games, play continuing from, ten a.m. till six p.m. Tho game resulted: J. Kilgour, 7 wins 1 loss; and R. James' (skip), 7 wins 1 loss. They elected to take trophies of equal value, instead of playing off for second place. The leaders winning, namely, Cottle, .Pollard,* Squirroll, and Moritzson, were equal— 6 wins and 1 loss— elected to take trophies of equal value, instead of playing off for first and: second place.
