At the Agricultural Show, John Grant, Wallacetown, Invercargill, won the first prize and champion for Bell Persimmon, beating Angus, of South Australia, the principal , Australian breeder. Grant also obtained two seconds for Ayrshire cows. THE FEDERAL SPEAKERSHIP. Adelaide, April 3. Mr. Holder, formerly Premier of South Australia, has decided to offer himself as a candidate for the Speakership in the Federal Housb. THE LOSS OF THE FEDERAL. ■ Meliioxjrnjo, April 3. Clothing sent here which was picked up at Liptrap has been identified as belonging to the chief engineer of the Federal. THE AUSTRALASIAN SQUADRON. Albany, April 3. 'The first-class screw cruiser Blake has arrived from Plymouth with a relief crew for the flagship Royal Arthur. She takes Home the time-expired crew.
THE FEDERAL MINISTRY. Sydney, April 3. The Federal Ministers will assemble in Melbourne at the end of next week, when the procedure at the opening of Parliament will be arranged.'
PRESIDENCY OF THE SENATE. Sydney, April 3. Sir Richard Bakei, of Adelaide, is a candidate for the presidency of the Senate.
