FUNERAL OF COLONEL FRANCIS.

[BY TELEGRAPH. ASSOCIATION.] Chhistchtjrcit, Wednesday. The funeral of Lieutenant-Colonel Francis took place to-day. There was a very large gathering of citizens. The Premier and Colonel Newall came from Wellington specially to attend. Deceased was buried with _ military and Masonic honours, having held high office in the New Zealand Grand,. Lodge. The North Canterbury Infantry Battalion, tinder Major Day, formed a firing party, and turned out in strong force. A large number of wreaths were sent by friends, the donors including the Ministry, the. New Zealand Rifle Association, Colonel-Pole Penton, the local volunteer officers and corps, the members of the Fourth Contingent, and the Grand Lodge of New Zealand. Among the mourners were a number of returned members of the New Zealand contingents.
