Mr. W. C. Whitney, an American millionaire, who runs racehorses in England, has just paid £12,000 for the stud horse Hamburg. The, horse was the property of the late Mr. Marcus Daly, and was put up to auction at Madison Square Gardens, New York. He will go to Mr. Whitney's stud in Kentucky. It is stated that experiments with aluminium as a substitute foi paper, are now under way in France. It is now possible to roll aluminium into sheets four-thousandths of an inch in thickness, in which form it weighs less than'paper. . By the adoption of suitable machinery these sheets can be made even thinner and can be used. for book and writing-paper.
