Htiddart-Parker Company, left for [Wellington yesterday by the Takapuna. Mi-. A. C. Whitney, manager of the Colonial Ammunition Company, was a passenger to Wellington by the Takapuna yesterday. Mr. "C. V. Houghton, local manager for the New Zealand Shipping Company, left for New Plymouth by the Takapuna yesterday. ; ■-■-~,.'.; It is stated that Mr. John Ross (of Sargood, Son, and Ewen) and family, who have been living at are about to take up their abode again inDunedin. Dr. Mason, chief health officer for the colony, left for Rotorua yesterday morning to supervise the ' sanitary improvements being carried out there, in view of the approaching visit of the Duke and Duchess of York.
A Wellington Press Association telegram states that it is understood that Mr. Jas. Eden, manager of the Hillside railway workshops, has accepted a highly lucrative position in the West. Australian Government service.
The Hon. T. Y. Duncan, Minister for Lands, was a passenger to Wellington by the Takapuna yesterday. Owing to urgent business in Wellington, Mr. Duncan has had to abandon the remainder of his North Island trip.
Mr. W. 11. Potts has been re-appointed as one of the Government representatives on the Thames Harbour Board, and Mr. Wm. Deeble has been appointed as the other Government representative, vice Mr. 11. C. Gillesnie.
Mr. T. T. Masefield has been asked by the ■Minister for Justice whether lie would re willing to accept an appointment i'.s number of the City of Auckland Licensing Committee, in place of Mr. E. Bond, who has resigned. Mr. Masefield yesterday replied to the Minister to the effect that he was not .willing to accept: the appointment. Mr. Thomas Snow, manager of the ".Vaini South Gold Mining Company's mine, at Waihi (at present under a term of six months' protection), is about to "isit England with a view of the flotation of the mine on the London market. Mr. Snow recmi lavisited Nelson on behalf of an English syndicate, to report upon coal deposits there, a subject in -which he is well versed, having at one time been manager of the Miranda coal mines.
News has been received in Sydney of the ;', • engagement of Miss Sylvia Barley, young- . est daughter of Sir Frederick and Lady Barley, to Sir Windham Carmichael-An-fitruther, Bart. The marriage will take place in London in April. Last year Sir Windham Anslruther paid a visit to the: i;. colonies, remaining for some months. He was born in 1377, and succeeded to his father's title in 1898. His seat is Carmichael House, Thankerton, Lancashire.
