NINETEEN BOERS KILLED.
London, March 9.
The Times' correspondent at Colonel Befchune's headquarters under date of Wednesday reports that De Wet with 700 men traversed Fauresmith northwards early in the week a few hours in advance of Colonels Bethune and Plumer. '
A cordon of TheronV scouts masked the enemy's movements. . , When Colonel Bethune was at Riet River the enemy, with a view to rallying further north, broke and scattered, removing all whites and blacks likely to furnish information to the British.
Colonel Bethune on Wednesday surprised a Boer laager and captured many mule waggons i and stock. ' ~
The Daily Telegraph's correspondent states that Colonel Plumer on Tuesday killed 19 Boers near Fauresmith.
De Wet, by means of a ruse, sent Commandant Froneman with 400 men to trek north. They crossed the Modder River near Abraham's Kraal on Wednesday, while Steyn and De Wet and tne remainder of the force were resting near Springfontein. -
