THE GOVERNMENT AS COAL DEALERS.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—TRESS ASSOCIATION.] ; - Wellington, Sunday. The Premier told a deputation of trades' unionists last night that he hoped in a few months to be able to say that the Government were coal-dealers. It was his inten- -: tion to ask Parliament next session for au- . thority to open a State coal mine. He maintained that the combinations existing in the colony, and the manner in which these were being worked, was to the detriment of the people, especially the poor classes, and.de- ; manded immediate attention.
