OLD AGE PENSIONS.
SPECIAL SITTING AT ONEHUNGA. The Stipendiary Magistrate, Mi. T. Hutchison, sat all day on Tuesday at Oneliunga to investigate renewals, adjournments, and new claims, in connection with the coming year's instalments for old age pensioners. The chief clerk of the S.M. Court, Auckland, was in attendance: also Mr. John King, the deputy-registrar fo, Eden district, and his colleague for Manukau County. Mr. Tanp. Constable McCarthy was also present, and rendered valuable assistance to the Court. The cause list was a lengthy one. and after going through evidence, documents, and corroborativo proofs, His Worship sanctioned awar.i* ■ the full amount of £13 to issue to the following Jas. McPike, John Collins, Caroline Coiling?, Daniel Meßrierty, Joseph Morland. Louisa Walker Morhmd. George Starnes, Caroline Staines. James Campbell, Charles Kingsford Jeffs, John Dourking O'Hnra. Thomas Winterton Freestyle, John Sargeant. Mary O'Donnell. Thomas Giflncn, Ann McCarten. Joseph Necve. Bridget King. Augustus William Burnett, Harriet Beswiek, Charles Higgs, Mary Ann Smith.. Elizabeth Marks, Marv Fletcher. James Burns. Ann Jolliffe Bailev. Janet Clarke. Priscilla Plowman. Fanny "Hart, John Neill. Ann Innis, Eliza Maria Forbes. Michael Farrcll. Mary Hannah Hodge. John Roe .Steele, Sarah Maria Steele, Mary Foley. Thomas Bowe, Margaret Higgins, Louisa Mary Gennery Dixon. John Charles Browne. John Boyt, Christina Storey, Mary Ann F.iakey, Thos. Holland. Henn- Bowen. John Fletcher. Elizabeth Fletcher, Frederick Griffin. Lesser amounts were sanctioned as under .-—Philip Notman, £16: George Blackwood, £17: Matilda Parfitt, £H; Mary Wilson, £12: Richard Skinner, £11; Margaret Haslip. £9: John Franklin. £9; Jane Yates, £8; and Amelia Harris, £3. Several pensioners had their last year's instalments either reduced or refused, owing to impartial inquiries made by Mr. King from 'district and other representations, thus showing the necessity of independent inquiries being made in respect of many of those claiming renewals, and whose circumstances through various ways had altered in many respects during the last 12 months. Two new claims had to be rejected on'account of age and character, whilst adjournments for additional proof-; had to bo resorted to in other cases. The further hearing of cases Has adjourned till next month.
