4> [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.? CfinisTCHTTRCH, Wednesday. Thk Rev. J. Sarginson has been elected chairman of the Congregational Union Council for the ensuing year. and the Rev. B. L, Thomas secretary. The Council this morning passed a resolution adopting a petition to be presented to Parliament strongly protesting against the proposal to legalise the sale of liquor in the King Country. Grants were passed as follows :—Devonport, £60; Maungaturoto, £30; Raglan, £50. The Auckland members of the committee elected were: The Revs. B. L. Thomas. W. Day, Lyon, Messrs. Edmond,, Hall, Hooton, Lee, Mitchell, Spragg, Wood, Moore, Lyon, Fowld.s, and Trigg. Mr. Lyon was elected treasurer, Mr. Meadowcroft registrar, and Mr. Bowden auditor. An invitation was accepted to hold the meeting in Auckland next year.
