Steps are being taken by the New South Wales Government to assist the sufferers by the recent bush fires in the Albury district. Mr. Clement L. Wragge, the Government meteorologist of Queensland, who may probably till a similar position under the Commonwealth for all of Australia, has (says the Chronicle), left London for Styria and Northern Italy, under instructions from his Government to inquire into the methods there adopted for controlling heavy rainfalls and minimising their disastrous effects on orchards and vineyards. There are some shareholders in Queensland enterprises in this country who would be well pleased to hear that Mr. Wragge was using his wellknown influence to precipitate a flood in the avid north-west, regardless of a few orchards and vineyards that might suffer thereby.

Those desiring to buy homes or investments, and requiring monetary assistance, should consult Mr. Thornes, 91, Queenstreet, who has several sums awaiting investment.
