ENTERTAINMENTS AND MEETINGS.
THE CHARLES ARNOLD SEASON. The excellence of the performance by the Charles Arnold Comedy Company of the extremely amusing farce-comedy, "What Happened to Jones," drew another crowded audience to the Opera House last night on the occasion of its second production. The lively and entertaining piece was acted with consummate art by all the artistes concerned, and the audience were in a constant state of hilarity. The curtain-raiser, "An Empty Stocking," again appealed to the emotions of the audience with its pathos, and was cleverly represented. "What Happened to Jones".will be repeated to-night and until further notice." DIX'S GAIETY COMPANY. The City Hall audience of last night was both large and appreciative, an excellent programme being presented by the members of Mr. Dix's Gaiety Company. The Tylers gained uproarious applause in their astonishing acrobatic, feats, the Risley act especially causing them to be warmly received. The Leslie Brothers repeated their remarkably funny and no less clever musical act, and made a great hit. Mr. John Coleman and the other artistes were successful in providing a series of enjoyable items, which caused the entertainment to be much appreciated. FULLERS BIJOU COMPANY. There was a good attendance at the Agricultural Hall last night, when the programme was well received. Miss Jessie Verne confirmed the good impressions gained on her first appearance. The rest of the company were well received. On Saturday next Mr. Will. Diamond, baritone vocalist, makes his first appearance, and Mr. Jack Williams reappears. MOUNT EDEN ROAD BOARD. The ordinary meeting of the Mount Eden Road Board was held at the office on Monday evening, when there were present: Messrs. R. Udy (chairman), C. J. Tunks, R. R. Ross, C. Hudson, and O. Nicholson. The bank balances were reported to be as follows:—General account, debit, £44 Is lOd ; lighting account, credit, £195 Os Yd; loan rate account, credit, £161 9s 7d; water account, credit, £218 13s Id. _ The collector reported his receipts since November 26 la-st to bo: On general fund account, £445 5s 2d; on lighting account, ,£202 7s 2d; on water account, £415 4s 3d. Accounts were passed for payment amounting to £259 5s lid, including £128 10s lOd balance due the Charitable Aid Board. Report was made to the Board of the total amount collected out of the general rate for the current year, and also of the lighting rate. The accounts for the year ended March 31, 1900, having been audited since last meeting, were laid before the Board, duly signed and passed by the Auditor-General. Report was made upon water consumption and road works by the foreman of works. Two cases of enteric fever in the district were reported, under the Public Health Act, 1900. A large number of letters and petitions came before the Board, and received attention. The Board resolved to ask the Government if the sum of £4000 would be available for a loan to extend the present water supply, in case the result of a poll was in favour of such a proposal.
