DEATH OF AN ADMIRAL.

London, February 19. The death of Admiral Sir George Ommanney AVilles, aged 78, is announced.

Sir George- Willes was born in 1823. He was educated at the Royal Naval College at Portsmouth, and entered the navy in 1837. Ho served in*the Crimean war (1851-55), and the China war (1859-60), and was naval A.D.C. to the late Queen from 1870 to 1874. Ho was chief of the staff at the Admiralty from 1869 to 1872; Superintendent of Devonport Dockyard from 1876 to 1879; Com-mander-in-chief on- the China station from 1831 to 1884. He retired in 1888.
