CnniSTCilcncit, Tuesday. A few weeks ago a publican at New Brighton was charged by the police with Sunday trading, in giving more than one drink to a traveller. The magistrate dismissed the case, but now the police are appealing against the decision. At a meeting of the Licensed Victuallers' Association to-day, it was decided to engage counsel to oppose the appeal.

W. Burn!)), landlord of the Criterion Hotel, was charged to-day with serving drink after hours*. It was contended on his behalf that the beer which* the constables saw drink at lialf-past eleven p.m. had been served belcie the closing hour, and the case was dismissed. Palmehston North, Tuesday. Shemtt, licensee of the Longburn Hotel, was fined £2 and costs yesterday for refusing to admit the police to his premises Dunedin, Tuesday. In the sly-grog selling prosecutions pioceeding at Tapanui, George Dunneto, of Kelso.'was convicted and fined £40 and costs or a month's imprisonment. An information against McCann was dismissed, and the hearing of the fresh informations laid yesterday were adjourned. It was stated that McCann would only allow one stranger to enter the bar at a time, and always locked the door behind him. Fernley and Williams, in police employ, gave evidence as to being supplied with drink. Williams (who was at one time in the deeds office, Napier) fixed no definite date, and for the defence evidence was given that on the day stated by Fearnley McCann had gone away fishing from an early hour till late at night..
