THE INDIAN TROOPS.
DEPARTURE OF THE DALHOUSIE. The Indian transport Dalhousie, with the Indian soldiers on board, left Auckland for Gisbome at. four o'clock yesterday afternoon. There Mas a .large crowd on the wharf, and hearty cheers were given as the troopship sailed away. The majority of the Indians were on deck in their gayest uniforms, and responded lustily to the' cheers from the wharf. Colonel Pole-Penton sailed with the Dalhousie, but Colonel Peyton, who commands the contingent, remained behind,, his intention being to go by the west coast to New Plymouth. The Indians parade at Gisborne to-morrow, and *& Napier on Friday morning, half of them going in the course of Friday overland to New Plymouth, while the remaining hall will go down the east coast on the Dalhousie. The Mayor, Lieu-tenant-Colonel White, Major Morrow, and others, were on the wharf to see them off. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.? ~ Gismorxk, Tuesday."* The Indian troops will be the guests of the Turf Club at Thursday's races. Also Air. and Mrs. Seddon. Mr. J. G. Ward, and the officers of the Dalhousie. Wellington-, Tuesday. The Indian troops arrive here early on Sunday morning. Mr. Wilford, M.H.E.. has received the following telegram from the Premier, at Auckland :—"One-half, or 50, of the Indian troops leave Napier by special train on Saturday .norning, for Wellington, and will stay a-qunrter of an hour at all the principal stations along the route. This will give an opportunity for residents to see them as they are passing through. The other section proceed to New Plymouth on Friday afternoon, and meet in Wellington on Sunday night, and march through the town on Monday afternoon. lie good enough to inform all local authorities there will be a-quarter of an hour break at the principal stations on Sunday between New Plymouth and Wellington."
