TAKAPUNA JOCKEY CLUB'S SUMMER MEETING.
INQUIRY INTO THE ALLEGED INCONSISTENT RUNNING.
The adjourned inquiry by the stewards of the Takapuna Jockey Club into the alleged inconsistent running at tho club's summer meeting of the horse Bluejacket, was continued at the club's offices, Durham-street, yesterday afternoon, Mr. E. W. Alison, chairman of committee, presiding. Bluejacket running in the Takapuna Cup on the first day of the summer meeting failed to get a place, but succeeded in winning the big ha'idicap very comfortably on the second day (Saturday last).
The first witness called was Peter Chaafe, owner of Bluejacket, who, in his evidence, said that when the horse was sent to the post in the Cup lie had instructed the rider, J. Sceats, to get well away, if possible, to use his own judgment in riding, and to win if possible. Sceats had ridden Bluejacket for him in two cups previously, and witness thought it could be left to him to use his own judgment. He was satisfied with Sceats' riding in the Cup, and had given him similar instructions as to riding on the second day. He had backed the horse on both days, much more heavily on the first than the second day. He thought that Bluejacket had been bumped about a lot on the first day, but had had. a. clcar run on the second. After the Cut ho complained to Messrs. Alison, Wynyard, and Lankham, officials of the club, of the treatment received by his horse in the race.
F. Wells, clerk of course and a steward of the club, was next called. He said ho had seen both Bluejacket and Davntree interfered with by Regalia 11. on the first day; Bluejacket, in his opinion, suffering most.
The secretary (Mr. R. Wynyard), called, stated that Messrs. P. Chaafe and J. T. Armitage, owners of Bluejacket and Dayntreo respectively, had complained to him of interference on tlio part of Regalia 11. on the first day.
Speakman and J. Chaafe, jim., riders of Regulus and St. Ursula respectively, also gave evidence, both stating that there had been considerable bumping and unfair riding in the Takapuna Cup. Speakman was particularly emphatic as to the unfair riding of the jockey on Regalia 11.
At this - stage the inquiry was adjourned until two o'clock to-day, to enable the evidence of Major George, Mr. Thos. Morrill, and several jockeys to be taken. ALLEGED FOUL RIDING. The stewards also considered a complaint laid by Jell ings, the rider of Balbirnio in the Second Hack Race, against Speakman, the rider of Zulieka, for interference villi his mount at tho entrance of the straight. After hearing the evidence, the stewards decided to dismiss the complaint. WEIGHTS FOR THE THIRD DAY'S RACING. The following weights have been declared by Mr. W.
