BOROUGH COUNCILS.
PARNELL. The ordinary meeting of the Parnell Borough Council was held last evening. Present: Messrs. H. Campbell (Mayor), J. Fitt, R. S. Briggs, J. Gilmour, W. Thomas, C. E. MacCormick, J. Petford, and Geo. Cozens. Correspondence: Dr. Inglis reported a case of enteric fever in Falcon-street. Letter received. Mr. J. Thornes wrote calling attention to the want of scoria on the footpath on Parnell Rise: Referred to the foreman of works. Messrs. A. W. Thomson and A. Clemens wrote asking that the footpath in Hobson Park Road be kerbed and channelled. The work was ordered to be carried out. James Pee wrote calling attention to the state of Stratford-street: Referred to Streets Committee to report. Mr. Warren Blyth wrote re the footpath in Scarboro' Ten-ace: Referred to Streets Committee to report. Mr. R. Leslie Hunt wrote requesting that Manukau Road from St. Stephen's Avenue to Ayr-street be tarred and sanded: Referred to Streets Committee. Mr. D. W. Duthie called attention to the nuisance caused through defective drainage overflowing oil his property in St. George's Bay: The engineer was instructed to take measures to abate tho nuisance. Sewer: A discussion took place upon a suggestion of the engineer, to divert the proposed outlet of St. George's Bay sewer to join that at Mechanics' Bay: No definite decision was arrived at, and the matter was deferred. NEWMARKET. The ordinary meeting of the Newmarket Borough Council was held last evening. Present: Messrs. Jno. McColl (the Mayor), F. Bennett, J. M. Laxon, Geo. Smerdon, F. Smith, A. Seccombe, and W. Edgerley. Charitable Aid: The Hospital and Charitable Aid Board forwarded a return showing that six persons within the borough were receiving charitable aid. Received. Abattoirs: The Nelson city engineer wrote forwarding information with regard to the public abattoirs erected in that city, stating that its was £2750, with a slaughtering capacity of 30 large and 220 small cattle per day, and offering to supply the plan for the sum of £10 10s. Letter received. Huntly Avenue : Mr. A. Hanna wrote with reference to the difficulties which had arisen in connection with the formation of Huntly Avenue, owing to the purchaser of one of the allotments fronting it having obtained ?. Supreme Court injunction restraining Mr. White from proceeding with the cutting down of the road, on the ground that her property would be seriously prejudiced in value. The letter stated that Mr. White felt bound to complete his agreement with the Council, and the matter would be argued on his behalf at the civil sittings of the Supreme Court, in March next, but suggested that the difficulty might be overcome if the Council would consent to a modification of the levels, and consult with Mr. Clieal on the matter. Mr. Bennett stated that by resolution the level was fixed subject to the consent of the parties being obtained. On Mr. Laxon's motion it was resolved to let matters take their course between tho interested parties. By-laws: Mr. Laxon gave notice of motion that a special meeting be called to revise the by-laws. Rating: A letter was received from the Auditor-General, consenting to the reduction of. the special rate for the payment of interest and sinking fund on the loan,of £4-000 by Id in the £ from April 1 next. ONEHUNGA. The ordinary meeting of the Onehunga Borough Council was held last night, when there were present: His Worship the Mayor (Dr. W. R. Close-Erson), Mrs. Yates, Messrs. Shaldrick, Bradley, Hill, Colledge, Edwards, Rowe, and McLeod. Impounding Cattle: Mr. W. Hogg (clerk to the One-tree Hill Road Board) wrote, asking if the arrangement made between the Council and his Board to regard certain roads in the district as neutral ground, from which cattle were not to be impounded by the rangers, is still recognised by the Counoil. The town clerk was instructed to reply that the agreement was now at an end, the ranger having been instructed to impound all cattle found straying in the streets of the borough. Fire Brigade: Mr. E. Sutherland (captain of the Onehunga Fire Brigade) wrote stating that six members of the brigade will be leaving for C'hristchurch next Thursday to take part in the New Zealand United Fire Brigades' Association competitions. In the absence of both officers of the brigade, he asked that Senior-Branchman Filmer be left in charge. The request was acceded to. Electric Light: The Council-in-Committee recommended that the town clerk writo to the Electric Lighting Comnany at Wellington, asking for information as to the probable cost of lighting the borough of Onehunga by electricity. The recommendation was adopted. Tenders: The following tenders wore received for leasing lots 13, 14, and 15, of section 11:—Margaret Williams, £7 12s per annum, for a term of 10 years; Joseph Hastie, £4- 10s per annum, for 10 years; James Beaver, £7 for one year. Mrs. Williams' tender was accepted. ■ Finance: The treasurer's statement showed a debit balance of £311 14s lid. Accounts amounting to £78 0s lOd were passed for payment.
