In the valley of Cuernavaca, near Vera Ciuz, Mexico, are to he soon the ruins of the famous Jardin Borda. This marvellous garden was laid out in 1762 by Jose la Borda, a man of great wealth and a. lover of Nature. It took years to finish, and was made up of shady trees, labyrinths of flowering shrubs, and beds of the most costly flowers, in the midst of which were beautiful flashing fountains. The cost to the owner was 1,250,000 dollars. When completed the gardens were said to be like a chapter from the "Arabian Nights." The Emperor Maximilian and the Empress Carlotta used to spend much of their time in these gardens. Now the garden s neglected. The lanes are weed-grown, the vires struggling and unpruned, the flowers are but a memory, and the fountains cease to sing. The grand old trees are still there, however. A Californian traveller, speaking of these gardens, says that the beauty of former clays can only be imagined. Even I, when musing can only raise a faint idea as to what El Jardin Borda was like. Last days of Tonson Garlick Coy.'s furniture announced; next Saturday, 23rd inst; don't miss the opportunity. Fire : W. F. Tucker is able to inform his customers and the public generally that he has taken suitable premises in Commerce street, top floor, Parcel Delivery Agency, where his manufactory will be in future.
