SPORTING.

The Takapuna Jockey Club will inaugurate their'summer meeting to-morrow, and, should the weather prove propitious, a large crowd of visitors may be depended upon to cross the water, as the promise of a capital afternoon's sport is in every way assured. The programme to be gone through consists of eight events, which are to be run off in the following order:—Maiden Plate (one mile), Calliope Handicap (six furlongs), Zealandia Handicap (five furlongs), Takapuna Cup (one mile and a-half), Hack Handicap (five furlongs), Handicap Hurdles (two miles), Pony Handicap (five furlongs), Stewards' Handicap (six furlongs). The first race is set down to be started punctually at one p.m. f There is reason,to believe that New Zealanders are supporting Advance strongly in Australia for the Newmarket Handicap. In Auckland alone the son of Vanguard has been backed to win several thousands. A private cablegram received yesterday gives Advance s price for the race in question as 100 to 7. Nominations in connection with the Otahulm Trotting Club's Summer Meeting close to-night at ten o'clock. The Papakura Racing Club have withdrawn their privileges from sale, pending thi- fixing of a fresh date for the holding of the gathering. This is necessary owing to the Takapuna Jockey Club having fixed the third day of their meeting for the 16th inst. The annual meeting of the Waipa Racing Club took place at Bathurst's Hotel on Wednesday evening, Mr.. J. B. Teasdale in the chair. The secretary stated that at an informal meeting held last week it had been determined to hold 1 the races on the To Awa- ; mutu course on April 3. '
