POLICE COURT NEWS. Messrs. E. Ford and ' J. Callnan, J.P.'s, presided at the Police Court yesterday. Drunkenness: Five,first offenders were convicted and discharged, and Fred. Moody was remanded till to-day on.this charge. John Lundgren and ; August, Johnson '. were fined 10s or 48 hours in default,, and Henrietta Pe- ! tone sentenced to 14 days' hard labour.. Remanded: Robert Douglas was remanded to appear at Dunedin on a charge of neglecting to nrovido his wife with adequate means of maintenance. Threatening Language: Michael Driseoll was ordered to enter into his own recognisance to keep the peace for three : months on a charge of using threatening language towards John Shanahan at Cut Hill. ■ The following cases were heard before Mr. H. W. Brabant, S.M. :— Admitted to Probation: The youth James McLean Clark, who was previously convicted on a charge of stealing the sum of £12 10s, the property .of.David Nicholson, was brought up for sentence. 1 Accused was admitted to probation for six months, and ordered to refund the • amount i stolen, and pay costs 18s. ; Mr. McGregor appeared for accused. , . , '■-. :'\ Adjourned :'■ Edwin Deery was charged with doing an offensive act to George Martyn, by throwing the carcase of a dog at him. The hearing was: further adjourned in order that His Worship might view the spot where the offence is alleged to have taken place. Mr. Parr appeared for the complainant, and Dr. Laishloy for the defendant.
