POLICE COURT NEWS. Mr. H. W. Brabant, S.M., presided at the Police Court yesterday. Drunkenness: Two first-offenders were convicted and discharged, and John Thomas Trueman, for drunkenness while in charge of a horse and cart, was fined £5, or a month's imprisonment in dofault. • Theft of Cutlery: A middle-aged man named Henry Mills, was charged with the theft of eight knives, valued at 12s, the property of John Endean. Accused, on being charged, pleaded guilty. There was a second charge of stealing 16 knives, eight forks, and 10 spoons, and a loathe" strap, in all valued at £4 6s 6d, the property "of Albert F. Stilwoll. Accuse*?! pleaded not guilty to this charge. Chief-Detective Grace prosecuted. The evidence showed that accused stole th: property \ whilst in the employ of Messrs. Endean and j Stilwell. His Worship said that he would take into consideration that these were the first charges of the kind against the accused, and orderd two months' imprisonment on each 3harge, the sentences to run concurrently. Damago to Property: Fo» damaging a pane of glass, valued at ss, the property of Mrs. Annie Gibbons, of Chapel-street, Henry Lowe was fined 20s, and costs 6s, o. 14 days' hard labour in default, and ordered tc pay for the damage.
