Dr. Alfred Robert Waylen, of Guildford, who was one of the first white children born in West Australia, died on the 11th inst.
The Ven. Archdeacon Dudley left for Napier by the Mararoa yesterday, to attend the sittings of the General Anglican Synod. The Rev. Father O'Riley arrived from Dublin by the Mokoia on Saturday. He will be stationed in the Dunedin district for five years. Sir Arthur Douglas, Under-Secretary for Defence, arrived from Wellington by the s.s. Ngapuhi yesterday, on Departmental business, and was met at the station by Lieu-tenant-Colonel White and Captain Reid. MISSING FRIENDS. The following inquiries for missing friends in New Zealand are from Lloyd's Weekly,, of December 23 : — Arthur Piddington, was in Wellington, North New Zealand, in 1895. Sister Sarah asks. Joseph Smith, joined the ship Nelson, and sailed for New Zealand in 1889 afterwards on the American s.s. Auckland going to New York. Sister Charlotte asks. John Sweeney, of Cainberwell, sailed as assistant steward on the s.s. Rimutaka for New Zealand 10 years ago; last letter from Melbourne. Parents ask. /
