,"/: ■ r—•—-— y The ordinary meeting of the Dcvonport Borough, Council was held last evening. : There were present: Messrs. J. 0. Macky (the Mayor), 0. Mays, R. Dueler, J. Dandloy, J. Logan, J. Walker, 11. J. Baulf, and E. W. • Alison. St. Leonard's-street: Mr. Eagloton wrote, asking that St. Leonard's-street be formed.^ I It was decided to reply that, the work is jin hand, and will be completed as soon as the weather is suitable. ..^ Harbour Board: The secretary of the Auckland Harbour Board wrote re the new appointment of a member of the Council to I the Board. . The Mayor stated that it was _ I not his intention to seek re-election. Letter received. I Water Supply: Mr. C. Williamson and Mr. ! G. Kronfeld wrote, asking that a water supply bo provided for Soaview Road, Lake Taka- | puna, and ottering to adopt the service. The matter was referred to- the Waterworks Committee for consideration. . ■ . j Pipelayers' Licenses: Amplications for , I pipelayers' license from James Willetts and Harold Wells were referred to the foreman of works. j Sewer Connections: Applications for connection of properties with the sewer from T. J. Duder and 0. Mays were referred to the Streets and Works Committee. Plumber's License: An application for a plumber's license within the borough from' i' Alexander Jewiss was granted. Carting Tender: One tend*..- only, from R. Davis, rt-i'! received for the removal of j earth from the Calliope Dock to the Admiralty reserve at B|d per yard. The tender was ! accepted. . ..,:.;■ 1 Finance: Mr. Webster (town clerk) reported that the bank balances stood as follows- — j j General account, dr., £1319 13s 9d; drainage, cr., £432 6s W; waterworks, cr., £875,7s 9d: ' 1 interest No. 1, cr.. £307 19s Id; interest .No. 2, cr., £167. 17s 6d. \ ;'^P-^Z^ ; :f'::<M. | Accounts: Accounts were passed for pay--1 ment as follows:—General account, £122 112s lid; drainage account, £91 6s 2d; waterI works account, £39 6s 4d. '' . i Reports: The report of the Streets and |Works Committee, as follows, was adopted: I —That the sum of £1 be paid to Ching I George for damage caused by the drainage I operations to His property. That the foot--1 path in Rata Road be tarred and sanded. That portion of the footpath in Glen Road Ibe repaired. The report of the Finance and I Legal Committee was adopted, as follows: — 1 That the matter of compensation for the land i required at the North Head by the Defence | Department be referred to the borough soliciI tors, and 'that a reply be sent to the SecreI tary of Defence. Wellington, stating that the 1 Council could not see their way to allow a. \ barb-wire fence to be erected across the same I land, as the same was highly prized by tho i residents.; That rebate be allowed on rates, residents. That rebate be allowed on rates, : as requested, to Messrs. S. Vaile and Sons, , for .T. Hodgson, Edward Jones, and. J. H. I Hannan. I Hose Connections: The town clerk report- ' ed that there were 82 persons paying for ; hose connections within the borough at the 1 rate of 20s per annum each.
