MESSAGES OF SYMPATHY.

THANKS FROM THE KING AND ROYAL FAMILY. [BY TELEGRAPH.PEESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Monday. This morning His Excellency received the following cablegram from the Secretary of State for the Colonies: — . I "His Majesty the King and the Royal | Family command me to return thanks, in which His Majesty's Government jUn, for j the sympathy of New Zealand on the lamented death of He* Majesty Queen Victoria.—(Signed) Chamberlain." TELEGRAM FROM THE GOVERNOR. The Mayor has received the following reply from the Hon. C. Hill-Trevor, A.D.C., to His Excellency, Lord Ranfurly, in connection with the resolution of sorrow at the Queen's death :—"The Governor begs to acknowledge receipt of the Mayor's telegram on behalf of the Council and citizens of Auckland, and he will have pleasure in communicating the same to the Secretary of State for the Colonies." ■'• WREATH FROM WOMEN OF AUCKLAND. A suggestion has been made that the women of Auckland should pay a tribute to the memory of Queen Victoria, by asking the Agent-General, by cable, to act for them in sending a wreath to the funeral. The Mayor (Mr. D. Goldie) has approved of the suggestion, and has authorised a committee of 12 to receive subscriptions. 'J he ladies intend to have three stands in prominent places in the city to-day, to receive subscriptions from women. One stand will be at. the post office, another at; the D.S.C., and a third at Milne and Choyce's. BAPTIST UNION. ' The Rev. A. H. Collins, president of the Baptist Union of New Zealand, has received the following message in reply to a telegram of sympathy forwarded last week on behalf of the Baptist Union :"The Governor has received from the Acting-Premier your telegram of the 25th. He desires to thank the Baptist Union for their expression of sympathy, which he will convey to the Royal Family.—C. Hill Trevor." NEW ZEALAND NATIVES' ASSOCIATION. The following telegram has been received from the Governor in answer to one sent by the New Zealand Natives' Asoeiation: — " The Governor begs to thank the New Zealand and Australian Natives for their kind expression of. sympathy. He will convey the same to the Royal Family.—(Signed) O. Hill Trevor." TRADES AND LABOUR COUNCIL. At the last meeting of the Auckland Trades and Labour Council the secretary was instructed to forward the following resolution to His Excellency the Governor: —" That the Trade and Labour Council, as voicing the workers of the Auckland provincial district of New Zealand, desire through Your Excellency to express their deepest regret at the Empire's loss, and loyally and feelingly beg to offer their warmest sympathy to all the Royal Family on the death of our most gracious Majesty Queen Victoria." CHRISTIAN ENDEAVOUR UNION. The following telegram was sent to the Acting-Premier by the Rev. J. T. Pinfold, president of the Christian Endeavour Union :—" Please request His Excellency to convey to Royal Family, on behalf of Auckland Provincial Christian Endeavour Union, our heartfelt sorrow at the loss sustained by the death of out beloved Queen, and to express our loyalty and devotion to her son, King Edward. . GREY LYNN BOROUGH COUNCIL. At the Grey Lynn Borough Council meeting last evening His Worship the Mayor (Mr. R. T. Warnock) moved the adjournment of the meeting, and in doing so made some appropriate remarks on Her late Majesty. He moved a resolution expressing condolence to the King and Queen. Mr. Priestly seconded, and the motion was carried unanimously, the members of the Council reverently standing during the reading and the passing of the resolution. The meeting was adjourned until Monday week. * CONDOLENCES FROM THE THAMES. [by telegraph.— CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Monday The following is a copy of a telegram that has been forwarded to the Governor on behalf of the Thames County Council : —"The County Council of Thames convey to Your Excellency their assurance of the profound sorrow for the death of our wellbeloved and illustrious Queen and Empress, a sorrow _ felt and loyally manifested by every resident of the county."
