Six troopers returned home to-day, and were met by a large and enthusiastic crowd at the station. The men were taken to the Metropolitan Hotel, where their health was drunk and speeches made. DEATH OF AN AUCKLAND BOY. Yesterday Mr. Jus. Buchanan, of the A.M.P* Society, received a telegram from the Acting-Premier, the Hon. J. G. Ward, stating that Sir Alfred Milner had cabled that Sergeant Stanley Douglas Chapman, of the Caffrarian Horse, had died in the . Kroonstadt Hospital of enteric fever, Am. - deceased, who was an old Ponsonby boy, was educated at St. John's College, and,, after leaving school, was for several years , in the employ of Mr. Graves Aickin, chem- . Ist QueSstreet. Being too late to join the- Fifth Contingent, Sergeant Chapman sailed for South. Africa about May last, and was enrolled in the Caffrarian Horse, and served with that regiment until invalided. In his last letter to his sister-, Mrs. J. Buchanan, Ponsonby, deceased stated that he had almost recovered, and hoped to be able to return tc the front shortly, from which, it is presumed, that in attempting to get about too soon, he suffered a re- ■ lapse, which terminated his life at the early age of 22 years. : .
