THE SIXTH CONTINGENT.
AUCKLAND SECTION COMPLETED.
LIST OP MEMBERS.
. Yesterday afternoon, at the contingent camp at the Domain, Lieutenant-Colonel Banks, officer commanding, had the men lined up, and read to them the conditions under which they would serve in South Africa, with the Imperial troops. The conditions provide that on arrival in South Africa they will be posted to units of the regular Imperial army, individually or collectively, as may be directed by the Imperial authorities, and will iDe subject in all respects to the terms and provisions of the Army Act, 1881, and its amendments. The Colonel, after reading the conditions, advised the men that it was necessary that they should at all times observe strict discipline, in every way obey the officers under whose command they might be, and otherwise conduct themselves in a manner that would bring, credit upon themselves and the colony they hailed from; to follow in- the footsteps of those who hud gone before them. The usual courses of mounted and footdrill were gone through, a.nd the progress made shows that the men are being rapidly got into shape under the supervision of Captain Reid. THE SEND-OFF. v : TO THK KDITOB. ■ Sir,—Allow me a contribution to the numerous suggestions hereon. Why, not have the sendbpff on the afternoon of Sunday, the 27th task? There would be space for a military display—and, if necessary, a church ■ parade— the Metropolitan Ground. The procession might halt en route in Government House Grounds, where
t speeches might be delivered from the piazza, i while a convenient and not too lengthy j route ■to the wharf: would be via Bowen ■■ Avenue, Victoria-street East, and Queen* street, to the place of embarkation , The above would facilitate a maximum of attendance, with a minimum of loss, of business time.-rj am, etc., Veteran.
