The Union Company's steamer Hauroto will be floated out of the Calliope Dock today, after cleaning and painting, and berths at* the Queen-street Wharf to load for tne Islands. She leaves oi. Wednesday evening for Tonga, Samoa, Fiji, and Sydney. THE TOMOANA. . The Tyser liner Tomoana left Sydney for Auckland at 10 a.m. on Saturday last, and is duo on Thursday next. The steamer has 3000 tons of general cargo from London to discharge at this port, and. will load wool, etc., tor London, proceeding South to nil up. Mi. Arthur H. Nathan is tne local agent for the steamer. THE PUKAKX . The Union Company's steamer Pukaki, Captain S. Stringer, arrived from the South at 6.20 p.m. yesterday with a cargo of grain and produce Mr. A. S. McKenzie. the purser, reports that the steamer left Port Chalmers at 3.40 a.m. on the 20th iust., and called at Oamaru the same date, Timaru on the 21st, and Gisborne on the 24th. Left again the same date foi Auckland at 10.15 a.m.. arriving as above. Experienced light variable winds and smooth seas throughout the trip. THF STAR OF THE EAST. The barque Stai of the East. Captain Geo. Rogers, arrived from New York and Wellington last night, being towed in by the s.s. Durham, and anchoring in the stream at B.oj p.m. The vessel, which brings a part-cargo of kerosene and general merchandise from the American port, had a very tempestuous voyage out to Wellington, where she arrived on the Ist inst., after a passage of 116 days. On discharge the barque sailed for Auckland on the 15th inst. with a light N.W. wind and heavy southerly swell, which continued until passing Cap* Palliser, when the wind went into the N.E. At 4 p.m. on the 18th it suddenly shifted into the N.W., blowing a very heavy gale, moderating on the 19th, and shifting into the S.W., then into the S. and S.L. and then into the N.E., shifting suddenly into the west with a heavy squall of wind and rain and much lightning, continuing all night, the trucks of the three masts being constantly illuminated with St. Elmo lights. At 2 a.m. on the 20th sighted East. Cape light, with the wind light from the wes;, and thick, dirty weather. On the 22nd another heavy gale from the north-west was encountered. Listing until the next day. when the wind went into the southward. Sighted Cuvier Island at 4.30 a.m. on Saturday, and met with light variable winds until milking the gulf yesterday, being picked up by the Durham and towed into port as above. The barque will be berthed at the wharf this morning, and on discharge loads kauri gum for New York.

H.M.S. ARCHER, j The Archer, a sister ship to the Mohawk, , arrived alongside Garden Island. Sydney, on the 14th inst.. from Sheerness. She will take the place of the Mohawk on the station, and is in command of Captain Rolleston, who was in Australia in one of Her Majesty's ships some years ago. His executive comprises Lieutenants Lewis, Stewart, and Dixon. Staffsurgeon Maillard, V.C., Chief Engineer Raffey. and Paymaster Wells. The ship's complement is 176 men, all told, and the health of the crew has been good during the voyage. Lieutenants Lewis and Wells were out here in the Goldfinch, and Chief Engineer Raffey was on H.M.s. Calliope at the time of her memorable escape from wreck during a hurricane at Samoa some years ago. The Archer, after leaving Sheerness, called at Gibraltar, Malta, Suez, Aden. Colombo, Batavia, Kupang (Timor), and came via Thursday Island down through the Barrier Channel. THE MILDURA. H.M.s. Muldura arrived at Wellington from Lyttelton on Saturday, and leaves for Auckland to-day. THE ELINGAMITE. The Huddart-Parker steame. Elingamite left Gisborne 101 Auckland at 10 a.m. yesterday, and should arrive about the same hour to-day. The steamer proceeds on to Sydney this evening. THE COUNTESS. The steamer which is being built by Mr. R. Logan to the order of the Wellington Steam Fern- Company, and which is to be named the Countess, will be launched from the builder's yards.
