At the special sale of horses at Helenaville on Wednesday the weather in the morning being so rough and wet, occasioned a much smaller . entry, and a less attendance than would otherwise have been the case; however, many young horses of a good class were sold, and small and weedy animals also changed hands readily. A draught filly, 3-year-old, sold at £33; sodium colts, £13 to £22; five 2-year-old colts, £16 to £21, and small hacks and ponies £3 to £7 each. Hay and straw in usual quantity. Meadow, hay. Is 9d to 2s 3d cwt. and 8s to 12s by the load; straw, 10s to 28s load. Grain, etc. : Maize, ex wharf, 2s sd, ex store 2s 3d and 2s BJd; feed oats, 2a 2id; dun. 2s 4d; sharps, 4s cwt; chaff. £3 to £3 108; Dressed hay, £3 to £3 10s; straw, £2 15s per ton; superphosphates, £5 ss; Chesterfield guano. £3 15s ton. Hides, skins, tallow, etc.: On Tuesday we catalogued a much larger quantity than usual, and cleared the lot under the hammer to a full attendance of buyers, under brisk competition. • Hides were generally of a good class, and for ox of best quality, 4d to 5d lb; cow, 3d to 4d; lighter ox, 3Jd to 4d; cow, 2Jd to 3d lb; calf, 4d to Sid lb. • Sheepskins, up to 4s for'best woolled, 2s 6d to 3s 6d being the ruling prices; lambskins, 10(1 to Is 6d; pelts. lOd to Is each. Wool, in bags and dumps, sold at 4d to 4id for crossbred and longwool; bellies and pieces, 2id to 3d; horsehair, lOd to Is 3d lb; bones, 5s cwt; rough fat, lid and ljd lb; tallow, 16s to 18s 6d per cwt for ordinary, and up to Ms for best rendered. At Eemuera, on Thursday, dairy cows, in moderate supply, were at late values. Prices for those at profit were from £5 to £6 2s 6d each. Few store cattle yarded; those sold at late rates. The advertised Jersey bulls sold as follows:—Puck, £9; Rob Roy, 7$ guineas; Glentworth, 43 guineas. Fat and young calves, in full supply, are still selling at high values. Fresh-dropped, 6s to 10s each; medium. 12s to 15s; heavy, up to £2 7s; 66 sold. Fat cattle, penned in average numbers, were scarcely up to last week's prices, steers bringing from £1 to £1 3s 1001b (in some ca-ses £1 4s was reached); aged cows, 16s to 18s. Steers ranged in price from £6 15s to £14 10s each; cows. £4 to £10 15s: 250 sold. Mr. Wm. Taylor's show steers made £14 10s each: Mr. Jno. Fisher's first prize 3-year steers, £13 7s 6d;' the best fatted cow, £10 15s. from Kereone Estate. Since the show Mr. Wm. Taylor's first prize roan bull has been sold for 100 guineas, and the white bull at 65 guineas. Fat sheep, penned in average numbers, were firm at last week's prices, wethers in their wool bringing up to 18s 6d each; shorn, tip to 17s; ewes in their wool. 17s: shorn. 14s 6d; 1000 sold. Fat Jambs, plentiful, were required, and sold freely throughout, ranging in price from 8s to 14s 6d each; 360 sold. Pigs, scarce. Porkers brought from 18s to £1 6s each; small pigs, 6s to 10s 6d. There was a larger muster of stock than usual at Pokeno on Monday, which met with a ready sale, dairy cows fetching up to £5 10s each: dry cows. £2 to £3 15s; two to three-year steers, £4 to £5 9s; strong calves, £1 to £1 15s. On Wednesday, at Runciman, the pens were well filled with stock of all classes, which sold freely throughout, dairy cows bringing from £3 5s to £6 15s each; few selling under £4 10s. Bulls, of which there were a good muster, were required, and ranged in price from £4 to £7 each. Throe-year steers, £5 to £6 10s: two to three-rears, £4 to ,£5; yearlings. £2 10s to £3; dry cows, £2 to £4 15s. according to age and qualitv; fat ditto. £5 to £6 103; calves, £1 to £1 15s. Horses: We held no horse sale at the Durham l'ards on Friday, owing to the Agricultural Show being held. A good many horses changed hands at late rates. Cattle: At tho Newmarket Yard 3 on Tuesday dairy and store stock were penned in larger number than usual, and. met a steady sale at improved rates. Dairy cows brought from £3 15s to £6 12s fid; 4-year-old steers, £5 2s to £6 4s; empty cows, £2 18s to £3 15s. Beef was yarded in average numbers, the quality being good throughout. Ox beef sold at from £1 Is to £1 4s 1001b; cow. 17s to £1. Steers brought from £6 15s to £16 17s 6d; cows, £4 2s 6d to £8 25 6(1. The second prize oxen at the show, sold by Messrs. NORTHERN CATTLE SALES. Messrs. Hunter and Wilson report:— Buatangata sale the advertised number of cattle were yarded, and mostly sold at ruling values. At Hikurangi. monthly sale a moderate muster of cattle sold freely. At Whangarei monthly sale and privately 750 odd bead of cattle changed hands at improved values, only two pens failing to sell at tiie sale. Dairy cows and heifers, 60 sold, £3 to £5 10s. PATIIATUA. The record sale for the district was held on Wednesday. Abraham and Williams sold bullocks up to £7 10s and hoggets up to Ms. There was a large attendance of outside buyers, and bidding was spirited. Fifteen hundred cattle were yarded and sold. ELTIIAM AND HAWERA. Messrs. Nolan. Tonks. and Co. report, Hawera November 15:—At Eltham on 13th inst. we held a full yard with a- large attendance of buyers. Bidding was spirited, nearly everything being quitted under the hammer. At Hawtr.i. on 15th inst., there was. a large entry of cattle, and keen inquiry for all classes, the yards being practically cleared at or a.fter tho auction. Our monthly horse sale was held on 10th inst. One hundred and fifty horses were catalogued, and mostly or a good class. Draughts and spring cart horses sold exceptionally well. The tram horses from Auckland sold at good prices. Bidders wore numerous, most lots being sold at the hammer. Draughts fetched from £30 to £40; spring cart horses up to £26; hacks (good), £15 to £20. JOIINSONVILLE. Messrs. Freeman R. Jackson and Co. in conjunction with Messrs. Abraham and Williams, report on November 15 as to their Johnsonville sales. Fat cattle were in average supply. Some very prime beef was yarded. The demand, was easier than last week. Ox beef made £1 to £1 Is the 1001b. A limited amount of cow beef was sold at £1 the 1001b. Sheep were equal to requirements, and were generally of good quality. Shorn sheep made relatively better prices than those in the wool. Lambs were in full numbers, and. were well competed for. The bulk was of second-rate quality. Fat bullocks. £8 to £10; small sorts, £7 7s 6d to £7 15s; fat cows, £6 15s; heavy prime wethers. £1 to £1 2s; good to prime wethers. 17s 6d to 18s 6d; fat owes (shorn), 12s to 14s; fat lambs, 10s to lis 3d; lighter, 8s to 9a.
