i.' ; [DY TELEGRAPH.PRESS ASSOCIATIONS OHRISTCHTTECII. Thursday. The Baptist Conference dealt this morning with the reports of the Home Mission work done in the various provinces. Gratifying results were reported. The Rev. J. J. North moved, " That the union, grant moneys for building now churches in connection with the forward movements," which was carried unanimously. The Rev. Salter is urging the inception of a scheme to give status to and organiso the work of local preachers. The assembly warmly endorsed a resolution of the Roy. A. Dewdney, definitely committing the union to prosecute vigorous homo mission work. It was resolved that the jubilee conference be held in Nelson in November. 1901. Tho Invorcargill Church also invited the conference for next year. At the afternoon session papers were read by the Rev. Muirhead on "Citizenship;" by the Rev. North, en " Municipal Government;" by tho Rev. Martin, on ' The Press;" and by the Rev. Gray, on "Christianity and Commerce." In tho evening a very largely-attended public moctiig was held, the church being filled. Social evils were discussed. The Rev. Dewdr.oy spoke on Purity," the Rev. Dallaston oo " Gambling," and the Rev. Cox on "Temperance."
