THE SAN FRANCISCO MAIL.
By Telegraph.— Association.— London, July 31. Mr. W. P. Rkeves has protested to the authorities at Washington against delay in forwarding the San Francisco mails. Melbourne, August 1. The Age says that whether or not, Mr. Sprockets succeeds in jockeying Australian interests out of the San Francisco mail service, his'line, with a subsidy from the American (lovcramont, may he regarded as unfair. It is a certainty that the result will be that subsidised steamers will be able to compete with the Union Company for a good portion of the Sydney-Auckland trade at undercut rates, while the Union Company is barred in consequence of the recent legislation from carrying war into the competitors' field in Hawaii.
