OLDAGE PENSIONS.

The Stipendiary Magistrate, Mr. Brabant, held an Investigation Court yesterday morning at the Costley Home, to inquire into new and renewal claims for old age pensions from inmates of the institution. The chief clerk i of the Court, Mr. Ralfe, Mr. and Mrs. Moss, manager and lady superintendent of the Home, as well as Mr. Strathern, of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, and the deputy registrar, were in attendance. In addition to a lot of other applications to be 1 dealt with later on, the list comprised 42 petitions. Pension warrants for the full sum, £18, were authorised as follows : — Sarah Maitland, Ann Southwell, Dorothy Grecves, Catherine Byron, Margaret Britton, Margaret Graham, Mary Ann Young, Susan Dineen, Margaret Thompson, Mary Damty, Jane Neilson, Edward Hcarnstou, Thomas Whittle, John Dennis, Frederick Langshaw, James Jones, William Chandler, Willi in Byrne, William Beadle, George Whooton. Oharlos Hellier, John Graham, Thomas Phillips, James Bennett, James Brandon, Georgo Lloyd, Maurice Sheehan, John Jeffrey, Robert Greene, William Mackintosh, Dougal Doling, Timothy O'Callaghan, Edward Moore, Thomas McCathie, Henry Slierwin, Joseph Aulsebrooke, John Brennan, Allan Pye Kinghorn, Thomas Walton, and William' Hamilton, In the-afternoon Mr. Brabant had another good list of claims to investigate at the Resident Magistrate's Court. After full inquiries His Worship awarded maximum certificates for £18, in the following order : — John Rowe, Elizabeth Wood, Elizabeth Mackune, William Egan, William Hoggard, Martha Arnold, Rebecca Thurston, and Thomas Edward Bott. Certificates were also issued as follows Jane Mcßride, £16 ;' Francis Henry St. Elmo Conway, £13 ; and Mary Jane Walsh, £11. Owing to incomplete proofs as to ages, residence, character, and on other substantial grounds, two were rejected, two struck out as being under age, threo withdrawn, and nine postponed until the next sitting of tho Court. It was after six o'clock before the S.M. left the Bench. Many of the claimants are now'beginning to realise that every detail must be complete before the Magistrate will grant tho certificate. ;
